When Seth Sr. became too old to run the farm, John took it over and ran it until his death. He married Elizabeth Upham of McKeen, PA on September 22, 1831. She was born in Massachusetts in 1813. He died May 6, 1897. He was not listed in the census of 1870 although his wife and children are. *Della May Dewy Shepardson had April 17, 1846 as Seth's birthdate, then in the next paragraph, where she had his bio, she had March 16, 1846. Given that the birthdate of his first child, George Dexter was March 16, 1872, I think she mistyped Seth's birthdate in his bio paragraph. April 17, 1846 matches both FamilyHistory.org & Ancestry.com.

The second wagon, owned by William Shepardson, contained beside himself, his wife and three children and the family of James Wesson, making a party of eleven. The older members of the party walked. The party passed by way of Erie, PA, and after a period of six weeks, with a stop of one week for repairs and rest in Indiana and one day mired in the mud on Calumet Flats, within sight of Chicago, reached Naperville, De Kalb County, IL, October 9, 1845, the home of Mr. Thayer, formerly of Gerry. They decided to go no farther west. That winter William Shepardson secured work with the Illinois and Michigan Canal at Lockport, receiving $1.50 per day for himself and team. The next spring he moved to Paw Paw Township, De Kalb County, IL, where he secured a 40-acre tract from the government at $1.25 per acre, living in a log cabin until 1847, when he moved into his new home. He was a Justice of Peace in 1847 and for several years thereafter; was a supervisor of Paw Paw in 1852 and 1854 and a member of the Illinois Legislature, 1852-4. A week or two later his wife was received, and for the next few years he served frequently on committees of the church.
In 1862 he sold his farm, which had increased to 228 acres, to his son, Sylvenus and moved to Aurora, IL, living until his death in the brick house which he purchased at 204 Galena Street. In Aurora he held the offices of Justice of Peace, Notary Public, and also Police Magistrate for many years. In politics he voted for Fremont and was a Republican during the war, but later in life was a Democrat. He died at Aurora, IL, July 24, 1882, of paralysis and was buried in Lake Street Cemetery.
